I’m excited to share this recipe with you, because I recently won a Vitamix Blender A3500 at the Everything Food Conference in May. And, I’ve been itching to blend up some creative recipes.

WATCH MY RECIPE VIDEO BELOW to learn how to make a strawberry banana smoothie the easy way!

For this strawberry banana smoothie, I’m using fresh strawberries that I picked at a local farm in Northern California. When I got home, I washed off these gems, removed the stems and popped them in the freezer.

ingredients to make a strawberry banana smoothie is sitting on a table, including: a Vitamix blender A3500, frozen strawberries, fresh banana, skim milk, Greek yogurt (plain), vanilla extra, honey, and ice.

Tips on How To Make a Strawberry Banana Smoothie

Tip 1: Blend It Slowly

The key to making a thick smoothie is to blend it slowly. If you have a Vitamix blender, you’ll want to blend it on variable 1 for 30-45 seconds.

Tip 2: The Order Matters

If you’re using a Vitamix Blender, make sure to add the ingredients in the order that they appear in this recipe.

Tip 3: Add A Little Bit Of Honey First

Since strawberries have very different sweetness levels, it’s best to add the base amount of honey in this recipe, then add more honey 1 tsp at a time.

If you’re not feeling the banana vibe, no hard feelings. You can scrap the fresh banana and double the quantity of frozen strawberries in this recipe.

If you want a rich, creamy strawberry smoothie, then ditch the yogurt, vanilla extract and honey. Instead, add 2 scoops of your favorite vanilla ice cream. This is more like a dessert strawberry smoothie.

How to Make a Smoothie With Frozen Fruit

Blending up a medley of your favorite frozen fruits is a great way to add more texture to a smoothie without diluting it with excessive ice cubes.

To speed things up, you can premeasure and prepackage fresh fruit into small freezer bags. I like to label the freezer bags too. Then, when you’re ready to make a smoothie with frozen fruit, you’re fruits are all ready to go.

How to Make a Smoothie With Yogurt

For a healthier kick, I like using plain non-fat Greek yogurt instead of ice cream. This also allows me to control the sweetness level and vanilla flavor.

If you want to replace the plain Greek yogurt with your favorite vanilla yogurt, power to you! Just make sure to remove the vanilla extract in this recipe. And, taste the smoothie before adding the honey; otherwise your smoothie might be too sweet.

If you’re lactose free, then you can replace the Greek yogurt with lactose-free coconut yogurt, which adds a tropical hint to this strawberry banana smoothie recipe.

How to Make a Smoothie Without Yogurt

To make this smoothie without yogurt, use 1.5 cups of skim milk.

If you’re not a fan of skim milk, you can also use unsweetened soymilk or unsweetened almond milk. When I tested this recipe with cashew milk, the cashew flavor was a bit strong for my taste. But if you're a fan of cashew milk, then go with your taste buds.

Let’s Talk About How To Make a Strawberry Rose

If you want to dress up this healthy strawberry smoothie recipe to serve at a party, then you can top it with an adorable strawberry rose. My tip is to carve all the strawberry roses and store them in an airtight container in the fridge before you make the strawberry banana smoothie. That way, when the smoothies are done you can quickly garnish the glasses with the strawberry roses without your smoothie becoming a messy goo.

Watch the smoothie video here to see how to make a strawberry rose. (I fast forwarded the video to where the strawberry rose starts).  It takes less than a minute to carve this easy strawberry rose. You just need fresh strawberries, a sharp pairing knife and straws.
